Tell Matt Hancock: expand the PrEP trial now!
Today we’ve heard the outrageous news that there will be further delay in ensuring that there is enough PrEP available in England to meet need. Will you help us by using your voice to ask Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, to step in?
You may have seen the news that NHS England has agreed the funding to double the number of places on the PrEP trial to 26,000. This is urgent because as of today, many clinics are closed to new places, so people in need of PrEP are being turned away. Some of them are later contracting HIV. To make matters worse, clinics are struggling to provide their PrEP service effectively because they lack adequate resources.
Yet today, we heard that the new places will not yet be made available, and that there are worries that clinics might not be able to cope with these places. This mess must be sorted out – with PrEP available for everyone who needs it, and clinics receiving enough resources to meet need.
Things have got to change. The buck stops with Matt Hancock. Will you help us to get PrEP on the NHS by writing to Matt Hancock, making your views known and heard? Our collective action has made a difference before, and with your support will do so again.
Our online tool makes it easy to send a letter, but you can make it even more effective by personalising the content. Perhaps you’ve been helped by PrEP, or struggled to get a place on the trial? Or perhaps you have experiences of sexual health clinics you’d like to share? Whatever you do, be sure to write to Matt Hancock and share the tool so that they hear us loud and clear.
